My Chinzi !

My Chinzi !
Chinzi was born on the 22nd of December 2006 in Durban, Natal, on the east coast of South Africa.

She spent her first few weeks with 8 other littermates, and lots of big dogs. Apparently she was the smallest in the litter. After both her sisters were picked by handlers who was part of the SA team who won the Large Team Event at the 2005 FCI World Agility Championships, one who owns her father Chi, Chinzi was put on a flight to Cape Town, and I met her for the first time at the airport.

She was quiet and shy all the way in the car, back to a show where all my agility friends were waiting to meet her.

Everybody loved her straight away, and in time she crept deep into the hearts of everyone who came to know her. She can entertain herself for hours by playing on her own with holding one toy in her mouth, and kicking a ball around with her feet. Chinzi is really a special girl and has lightened up my life.

Well, I can only hope she follows in her father's Agility footsteps! Watch this space! :)

Q's and success in Bloem!

Montego Classic Champ Show Weekend in Bloem.

Chinzi girl got two qualifications in Contact 1 this weekend, moving her up to Grade 2. She also qualified once in Non-Contact 1. On Sunday afternoon at the SADAA Club Trial, she also qualified in Jumping 1.

Her best result for the weekend however, was when she surprised me by coming third in the Dog Jumping Grade 1 on Saturday. She competed against 23 of the top Large dogs in the country, which makes this result a very sweet one.

She went clear in the first round to qualify for the jump-off and with a wicked weave entry which I must admit, I though she wouldn't crack, she ran a great clear jump-off round, to only be half a second slower than her dad, SA and World Champ, Chi. Chi's experience made him execute the 90 degree weave pole entry with precision and style and obviously that is where Chinzi's inexperience and slightly wider turn to line her up for the entry cost us some time. Mom was ecstatic with this result however and will be smiling for a long time to come. Chinzi, so young, getting such a good result. Wow!

Her aunt Ostara ran an amazing round to win the CC in this event by being almost 2 seconds faster. She is one magnificant dog, and will also be representing SA at the FCI Agility World Champs in Finland this year, handled by Alison Roets.

Saturday morning she also competed at the Boeremark for the Dog Jumping Interprovincial Event. We DQ'd in the first round, but went clear in the second, 0.2 seconds faster than her dad Chi. This was also a very sweet result. Chinzi, my young girl, up there with the best.

Unfortunately I don't have any clips of Chinzi on this weekend, photos to follow, but keep watching... THIS SPACE! :)

Chinzi Go Tops FDX !

Chinzi obtained her FDX (Flyball Dog Excellent) status on Saturday. Four KUSA competitions in her short flyball career, and four times maximum points. Well done Chinz! Thanks to her team mates who made this possible, first two competitions with Dogzcool, Tip-Top, Courage, Play and Koda, and the last two with the Boland Flyers, Comet, Beau and Ike. Thanks guys! Hopefully there will be many more successful runs to come! The Boland Flyers ran a 19.02 at Saturday's show, not bad at all. Here's to the 18.0 seconds coming soon! :)

On the Jumping side Chinz had a day of 5 faults... she unfortunately knocked a bar in every round, but still managed a 3rd place in Contact and 1st in Non-Contact. She worked well, at exceptional speed, with accurate contacts and lovely weave-pole entries. Well done Chinz, you're a pleasure to own, to love and to run.

5 First place rosettes underneath that in the center for 3 Agility rounds, all of which qualifications, and 2 Jumping rounds, of which one a qualification. Then one 2nd and 3rd place rosette for another Jumping and Agility round respectively.

My first Regional Trials!

Knysna 2008!

Chinzi had a magnificant weekend! Her first ever Regional Trials saw her achieve 5 first places from her 8 rounds, of which 4 were qualifications! She moved up to Agility grade 2 within one weekend! Well done my girl!

Her times were fast and I am very very happy with her performance. She was also a member of the winning flyball team, the Boland Flyers, who won Gold medals by winning the overall competition as well as both individual RT's, with times of 19.16 and 19.25 seconds. Chinzi earned a total of 62 points, earning her the title of Flyball Dog.

Boland Flyers from the left: Sarah with Comet, me with Chinzi, Karen with Ike and Roche with Beau.

Unfortunately not much video was taken, but here is one of Chinzi's fastest Jumping rounds, where she unfortunately knocked a bar.

Her first Agility round where she qualified.

Photos of her beautiful rosettes to follow as soon as the rain gives us a chance to have a mini photo shoot! :)

Agility Debut with a Q!

Chinzi made her Agility debut at the Cape Handler's Non-Championship show on 28 June. She started the day with a slow-ish (to her standards) Contact round, but steady to secure her first qualification as well as a first place out of 24+ dogs.

She also ran the fastest clear Dog Jumping round out of about 29 dogs, but unfortunately knocked a bar in the jump-off.

In her Non-Contact round she was working very well, but her mom started rushing her and cause a run-by on the 3rd last jump, unfortunately causing her to just miss out on a qualification there.

Early morning she also ran with the Boland Flyers in flyball where they secured a first place with a time of 19.5 (?) seconds, in very wet conditions.

Well done Chinzi! You are a born star all around!

Oudtshoorn

We travelled to Oudtshoorn this past weekend, and Chinzi had two Dog Jumping rounds. The first she popped out the poles and knocked a bar, so we had 10 faults unfortunately.

The second round, the tunnel was just tooo much of a magnet and we DQ'd. :) She had so much fun though and her mom learnt a lot.
Unfortunately there was a really sad ending to a fun weekend, when we came home to find Chinzi's best friend, our kitty Casper, had died. On top of everything, it is still a mystery as to what happened to him. He had no bruises or any signs on his body of what could have happened. No internal bleeding or injuries, nothing. He was only 4 years old and in perfect health. We are still awaiting the results of further tests.

Chinzi is missing him so so much, she's watching the door every morning for him to come in and tease her for their morning game of chase, but to no avail. Chinzi, my heart breaks for you... Casper rest in peace, you were the best cat ever and so sweet with the dogs. You will always be remembered with extreme fondness and love by us all.

Flyball Queen

Chinzi was the youngest dog to take part in the Hills Flyball races at the Good Hope Centre on Friday. Our team consisted of 3 dogs from Cape Town, and one from Durban, so we had never practised together as a team. We did quite well, coming 2nd, although we had the fastest time, we only had one clean run of our 3 runs.

Saturday however, was a whole different story. 5 Teams competed in the KUSA Nationals, and our first 3 runs were clear! We were on a roll and our last run was against the very fast Boland team. Unfortunately something went wrong, one of our dogs ventured out the lane and we had a rerun, which meant we lost the last heat. We ended in a close second overall! For a team who has never run together, we were quite happy and pleased.

Chinzi had an absolute ball (excuse the pun!) and was so hard to handle the way she gets excited and screams to go while waiting her turn in line. The Hills rep told me afterwards, I have an "insane" dog, well... all I can say is... if you want to see drive, watch Chinzi do flyball! :)

This was only Chinzi's second flyball competition ever, and I'm very proud of my girl, being steady, fast and consistent, not letting her team down even as young and inexperienced as she is, she earned her points. You go girl!

After the competition I let her off the leash to run back with me, instead she decided to rather do some more flyball and ran down the lane and back twice again, all on her own! :) She was disappointed not to find her beloved ball in the box, probably why she stopped after the second try.

Well done my girl, you made mommy proud!
